    "content": "Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.47(1), to make a Statement on an issue of general topical concern namely; commemoration of the World Teachers Day. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, on 5th October every year, the world celebrates the International Teachers Day. This day was set aside to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 International Labour Organization (ILO)/United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recommendations, concerning the status of teachers. This day sets international benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation, recruitment, employment, further education, and teaching and learning conditions. The recommendation concerning the status of higher education teaching personnel was adopted in 1997 to complement the 1966 recommendation by covering teaching personnel in higher education."
