"content": "The policy paper before us is trying to address these kinds of issues. Even after the 1980s, the Government decreed that people should live 50 metres away from the rivers. At that time, the Government was trying to tell farmers not to farm close to rivers. However, up to now, we have no officers who superintend or look into these issues. As much as we have the National Water Policy, water programmes and the water frameworks that are before us, water officers responsible for taking care of the wetlands do not take their roles seriously. One of the biggest problems that the world will face is the next fight over water because it is a very important resource. As much as I support the Sessional Paper, I urge the relevant Government agencies to implement it properly. This policy should be implemented through action plans that are achievable in order to make our country a better place to live in."
