"content": " Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I also support the Petition on mechanisation of tea picking. Mechanising tea plucking is good because it saves on time, but it is done in areas where there are no casual labourers. My people from western Kenya are mostly relied upon tea plucking in Chebango, Kapsuser, Seretet and even in James Finlays Estate in Kericho. If machines are brought, many people will be laid-off and this will affect the economy at the bottom. When we pay tea workers well, we provide a strong base for people at the bottom layer of the economy to rise and have a bottom-up economy. When people at the bottom rise, we will have the best economy in the world. I do not want this to go further and affect sugarcane harvesting. If we use mechanised harvesting, workers will not be required to cut sugarcane and they will not have money."
