"content": "coffee and sugar sectors, but there was zero mention on the maize sector. There was zero mention on subsidy on fertilizers for maize farmers, whom I represent in this House. The other issue that was not captured in the Speech is the issue of public debt. I expected him to tell Kenyans the level of our debt so that we may know the economic hardships we are going through as we service those debts. The other issue I did not hear him mention or give it the attention it deserves is the current drought that is ravaging the ASAL areas. It would have been important if he would have touched on that issue as well. There is also an issue that touches on our country. When a president is mentioned positively or negatively, it affects the nation. I expected him to say something about the Pandora Papers to enlighten us the way he promised, but it did not come out. As the President highlighted how we have successfully fought COVID-19 and the other good things that we have achieved, I expected him to also say something about the 21 days on the KEMSA heist, so that those who stole the COVID-19 money could be brought to book. We have heard many people discuss the IEBC and Mr. Chebukati pulling out of the Election Preparedness Committee. I want to laud the IEBC Chairman. The IEBC is independent. It has the sole mandate to manage, plan and carry out the election process. So, he was right to pull out of that illegal outfit. Nobody should blame him for leaning on any other side. What he did is in the best interest of Kenya. We know what happened when we had an IEBC Chair who was wishy-washy. We do not want to have that kind of thing again. I want to laud him for being firm. I have heard many people, including the President, lauding the “handshake” and talking a lot about it. I have a problem. The reason why we had the handshake that brought back peace to the country is because of people refusing to accept election results. What does glorification of the handshake do? We are going for an election. Whoever loses could start some chaos. He could get a handshake and we laud him for having been peaceful. We need to cultivate a culture of people accepting the will of the people and election results. The results that will be delivered by the IEBC The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
