Could the Assistant Minister assure this House that the Ministry will do something about the communities living around the Lake Region, especially when it comes to farming? These communities really suffer, especially in the case of cash crops, which are not usually taken seriously by the Ministry of Agriculture. Last year, the Ministry promised to ensure that the communities around the Lake planted cotton and that it would also purchase the cotton. But after farming, the Ministry reneged and has not purchased the cotton; it is getting dirty and when buyers come from outside the area, or even outside Kenya, they are not allowed to buy cotton.
