    "content": "(b) A total of 298 elephants have been lost to poachers in 2008/2009. Out of that number, 38 elephants were poached within the protected areas while 260 individual elephants were poached outside the protected areas. In addition to ivory demand in Asian countries, the high numbers of illegal firearms and porous borders, coupled with instability within neighbouring States, have contributed to increased poaching in national parks and game reserves in the country.
