The reason why there has been intensified poaching is the fact that the illegal trade in ivory is a very lucrative business in the global market. In 2007, one kilogramme of ivory was selling at Kshs1,500. To date, it is Kshs10,000. So, you can imagine that is almost a nine fold increase. This is what is encouraging these poachers."
