"content": "Madam. Temporary Deputy Speaker, before I conclude, I wish to talk about the sugar industry, particularly in my constituency. The sugar industry in my constituency is not doing well. Chemelil Sugar Company is almost on its knees. The problem there, I believe and I am convinced, touches on corruption. The company has just posted a Kshs1 billion pre-tax loss for the last one financial year! That is the highest loss that has ever been experienced by that company since it was established over 40 years ago. the highest loss it had sometime back â that is several years ago â was Kshs300 million, but today, it is Kshs1 billion! The management of that company has been subsidizing the sale of their own sugar, instead of selling sugar at the price of Kshs4, 000, which all other companies are doing. They have been selling their sugar at Kshs2,500 or even at Kshs2, 200 for reasons nobody understands. The Ministry of Agriculture already knows this.
