    "content": "Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I stand here to represent the Chairperson of the Committee on Health, on the Statement on the Activities of the Standing Committee on Health, January to April, 2022. I rise pursuant to Standing Order 51(1) (b) of the Senates Standing Orders to make a Statement relating to the activities of the Standing Committee on Health during the first part of the Sixth Session that is January to April 2022. During the period under review, the Committee held a total of 35 sittings, during which it considered various Bills, Statements and Petitions. The Committee has invited stakeholders and public submissions on the Bills, following which it shall proceed to substantially consider the Bills and adopt its reports thereon for tabling in the Senate. The Committee conducted stakeholder engagement and received submissions on the following Bills; (1) Mental Health (Amendment) Bill (Senate Bills No.28 of 2020). (2) The Kenya Medicals Supplies Authority (KeMSA) (Amendment Bill) (Senate Bills No. 53 of 2021) (3) The County E-Health Bill, (Senate Bills No. 39 of 2021). (4) The Maternal, New Born and Child Health Bill, (Senate Bills No. 52). The Committee considered these submissions, prepared and adapted reports of the Mental Health (Amendment) Bill (Senate Bills No.28 of 2020) and The Kenya Medicals Supplies Authority (KeMSA) (Amendment Bill) (Senate Bills No.53 of 2021). These were tabled during the period under review and is in the process of preparing the reports on the County E-Health Bill, (Senate Bills No. 39 of 2021) and The Maternal, New Born and Child Health Bill, (Senate Bills No. 52). During the period under review, the Committee considered 12 Statements sought by Senators. As you are aware, the Committee adapted different measures and tools of oversight during the Covid-19 pandemic, which we utilise to date among them being virtual inquiries. The Committee will continue interacting and engaging closely with the county governments and other health stakeholders in developing and facilitating the development of legal frameworks, policies and guidelines and providing oversight in the health sector. In conclusion, I wish to thank your office and the Office of the Clerk of the Senate, for the support extended to the Committee in the conduct and execution of its mandate. Lastly, I also wish to acknowledge the Secretariat support that the Committee has received from the office of the Clerk.
