    "content": "According to the Water Resources Users Association (WRUA), other activities that have caused pollution in the Mara River are the use of fertilisers, insecticides and other agrochemicals upstream, clearing of vegetation in the Mau Forest and sand harvesting. Some farmers have also been using water from the Mara River tributaries for irrigation, leading to low water volumes. The level of pollution has increased over the years due to urbanisation and the growing human population."
