Some of these women include: Prof. Wangari Maathai, the founder of the Greenbelt Movement and Kenya’s own doyen for pushing for environmental care and protection. She rose to become a global icon when she became the first Africa woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 in recognition of her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace."
