"content": "I applaud Ashura Michael, who is a youthful and confident deaf and a mentor to very many young people with disability. Not only has she gone against all odds by being the Co-Chairperson of the Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities, she has also served as the first “silent speaker” having been elected as Speaker of the youth wing of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). I acknowledge Hon. Dennitah Ghati, a Nominated Member of Parliament (MP), who is a woman living with a disability. She is also a strong disability activist representing PWDs. I also acknowledge Sen. (Dr.) Musuruve, a cancer survivor and a legislator with disability, who has consecutively won two Mzalendo awards on education and health. She has also sponsored three Bills addressing issues of disability. Madam Temporary Speaker, allow me to also celebrate women who have battled cancer and are still productive to the society. The likes of Sen. Beth Mugo, Sen. (Dr.) Musuruve and others already departed like Hon. (Dr.) Joyce Laboso and Ms. Melab Afwayi, who we buried just recently. I celebrate widows and single mothers who struggle to raise their children. They work hard and sacrifice their real selves to educate, nurture and mentor their children single handedly. All these women show how resilient and productive women can be when given the opportunity."
