    "content": "UNESCO), and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2012, as an international day, February 13 became World Radio Day (WRD). According to UNESCO, radio is a strong and powerful medium for celebrating humanity in all its diversity and constitutes a platform for democratic discourse. Madam Temporary Speaker, the theme for world radio day 2022 is ‘ Radio and Trust’ . This theme has been divided into three sub-themes namely - Trust radio journalism, trust and accessibility and trust and viability of radio stations. During this era of digitization, it is certainly the case that although radio is a source of information in providing real-time information, it is slowly losing its place. It has the ability to cross borders and has become valuable where reliable news is scarce due to its affordability. This unique ability to reach the widest audience means local radios play a very significant role in ensuring that local communities access information at their doorsteps. Madam Temporary Speaker, it is notable that vernacular radio stations have been critical in disseminating climate information, which has helped the citizenry make informed decisions about climate change interventions. Mobile surveying platform Geo Poll, has revealed in its recent research, that Radio Citizen, owned by Royal media services was the most listened to station in Kenya. Radio Maisha and Radio Jambo, which broadcast in Kiwahili came in second and third respectively. The most popular English radio station was Classic 105 followed by Kiss FM . As we celebrate the world radio day, I urge Kenyans to celebrate the lives of legendary Kenyans who played a significant role in the industry, who have since departed.
