"content": "THAT women who either miscarry or experience stillbirths are entitled to the highest attainable healthcare. Furthermore, a woman who has had this experience should not be expected to work and operate with normalcy and, therefore, time for recovery should be allowed in such instances. THAT Section 6 of the Health Act, 2017, states that every person has a right to reproductive healthcare. Specifically, Section 6(1) (c) states that: “Every person has a right to access treatment by a trained health professional for conditions occurring during pregnancy, including abnormal pregnancy, conditions such as ectopic, abdominal and molar pregnancy, or any medical condition exacerbated by the pregnancy to such an extent that the life or the health of the mother is threatened.” The Petitioner, therefore, prays that the Senate intervenes in the matter with a view to introducing an amendment to the Employment Act to make a provision for appropriate leave for women who miscarry or experience stillbirths during pregnancies. Hon. Senators, pursuant, to Standing Order No.231, I shall now allow comments, observations or clarifications in relation to the Petition for not more than 30 minutes."
