"content": " Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I thank the Committee for the report that has generated a lot of discussion. I support the report. I would like to make comments on a number of issues. When we talk of scrap metal industry, we are talking of a huge population of Kenya that earns their living from this industry. As other Members have pointed out, the same industry also wrecks the lives and livelihoods of other people in the society. You have had of cases of metals and scrap metals being stolen. This is one area that we really need to address. In most cases, the people who have worked in this industry tend to assume that they are being blamed for involving themselves in scrap metal trade. The point is that we would like them to be accountable for the activities they undertake. The proposal for public awareness instead of public participation is good. We need more public awareness for those in this industry to understand that they can only trade in scrap metal and not unused metal.
