"content": " Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I came to this House in 2003 as a young man. I thank the people of Yatta for having elected me, not once, not twice but three times. In this term, they had faith in me and voted for me as a person. I am here as an independent Member of Parliament, representing and acting in the interest of the people of Yatta. From 2003 is a long time. I believe there are many young men who were in school that time and who have gone to university and have worked and can take care from where I am leaving. For that reason, I have made a decision not to defend my seat. I am running for the Senate seat. To the people of Machakos, I promise them I bring experience. What you need in the Senate is a parliamentarian with experience. When I joined this House in 2003, Hon. Angwenyi will tell you, it was a very difficult time. There was no CDF. We did not have the Youth Enterprise Development Fund. There were no monies for women. Members of Parliament did not even have offices or staff. I want us to recognise those Members of Parliament. They might not be here, but they played a key role, influencing the role of Parliament and ensuring Members of Parliament are empowered.
