"content": " Hon. Senators, good morning. It is my singular pleasure and privilege this morning to welcome you to this first sitting of the Senate of the 13th Parliament. I take this opportunity to congratulate all of you on your election. The people of this country have placed tremendous trust in you. My colleagues and I who work in the secretariat of the Senate have the honor and privilege to be the people that will serve you as you prosecute these great responsibilities. Hon. Senators, Standing Order No.3(1)(a) of the Senate Standing Orders provides as follows: - “On the first sitting of a new Senate, pursuant to the President’s notification under Article 126(2) of the Constitution, the Clerk shall read the notification of the President as published in the gazette--- I will pause to allow the Senators at the bar to take their seats."
