"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, we know there are roads that pass through national parks in the coast region. What we should be pushing for is peaceful co-existence between the wildlife and people because this road will allow tourism to thrive in that area. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to thank you for the wisdom. Please, I urge all of us, as a Parliament, that we must put in place mechanisms to protect the farmers. If you travel outside this country, you cannot carry even one seedling because you will be arrested and prosecuted. Why is that? It is because they are protecting the interest of their farmers. Mr. Speaker, Sir, as I conclude, we must protect the farmers because this is an agro-economy nation. Almost 90 per cent of us depend on agriculture. From where Sen. Kathuri comes from, if you touch Miraa, he will remove his cap in protest. I can tell you for free. If you touch cashew nuts from coast or bananas from Nyamira, where my brother, Sen. Omogeni, comes from, there will be a protest. It is high time we put in place the necessary policies and mechanisms to protect our farmers. I fully support. You have directed Sen. Methu, as the chairperson of one of the committees, to provide the necessary inside information, to ensure that the road is constructed. This will ensure that the people of Nyandarua can access the markets and we do not complain about the high cost of food. Now, we are complaining of high cost of food, yet we cannot allow farmers to access the market of Nairobi City County, where Sen. Sifuna has always insisted that there is hunger in some specific areas especially in the slums. We should allow access to this market, so that food becomes affordable. I thank you for the opportunity."
