"content": "There is one thing which people have talked about here and I want to stress, that we want to kill our farmers. In India, when these issues came up, farmers were lighting themselves up and dying because their livelihoods were being threatened. Why? This is because of intellectual property rights. Once the seeds are produced, you cannot regrow them. You must buy the seeds all the time in order to plant. What does this mean? That all our farmers will be buying seeds from the USA and other countries all the time. Do those poor farmers in Rusinga or Mfangano Island have money to be rebuying seeds? What I know is our grandparents and great grandparents kept indigenous plant seeds on the roofs and every planting season, they would use and reuse them."
