"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, Mr. Kiprugut’s bronze medal at the 1964 Olympics was extremely valuable since it was the first ever for a Kenyan thus inspiring other athletes to shine on the Olympics stage. It is unfortunate that Kenya has lost a legend and - for the benefit of the House - the great legend was laid to rest in his home county where our Majority Leader comes from, Kericho County. It is unfortunate that Kenya has lost a legend who died as a poor man despite the glory he brought to the country. I continue to call upon the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts, and National Olympic Committee of Kenya to introduce a scheme and welfare fund to cushion retired athletes, sportsmen and women and legends who have brought glory to this nation. On behalf of the great people of Nandi County and of the Senate of the Republic of Kenya, I wish to pass my sincere and deepest condolences to the family, friends and to the great people of Kericho County for the demise of Mr. Wilson Kiprugut Arap Chuma and the entire sporting fraternity, especially athletes. It is worth noting that when this legend was running, he never used doping. Even as we discuss the issue of doping cases in the country, we must continue to urge our colleagues and request the relevant agencies to take action against individuals who continue to use our athletes as guinea pigs, giving them doping banned substances at the expense of the glory of the nation. I will go to my second Statement."
