Kipchoge’s victory was his fourth in Berlin and 17th overall in a career spanning over 19 marathon starts, including two on non-record-eligible demo races. His victory at a World Marathon Major came at the Chicago Marathon in 2014 and he went on to become a series champion for 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. He has won the London Marathon a record four times and the Berlin Marathon record-equalling four times. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, Kipchoge won the 2016 and 2021 Olympic titles in a dominating fashion. He holds the course records at Berlin, London and Tokyo and his win at the Chicago Marathon gives him four out of the six titles of the World Marathon Majors. Kipchoge is quoted to have said he wants to win all six majors, which would mean him running New York City and Boston Marathons concurrently. In addition, to his world records, he has run the two fastest marathons in history in demonstration events that are not record-eligible. In May 2017, he ran 2:00:25 at the Nike Breaking 2 Event in Monza, Italy. He surpassed that time in October 2019 at the INEOS 1.59 Challenge. He was to be the first person running under two hours at the INEOS 1.59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria, when he followed a galaxy of pacers to finish in one hour, fifty-nine minutes and forty seconds. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, Amos Kipruto won the Men’s London Marathon that took place on 2nd October, 2022, in London in his first appearance in the race. Mr. Kipruto, a former world bronze medalist, broke away from the pack late in the race with a powerful surge and finished in two hours, four minutes and thirty-nine seconds ahead of Ethiopia’s, Leul Gebresilase who was the second at two hours, five minutes and twelve seconds. Mr. Kipruto had never won a major marathon. In the 2022 Tokyo Marathon, he managed to finish in the second place behind world record holder, Eliud Kipchoge and in 2018, in Berlin Marathon. He was in the third position of the World Championships in 2019 and also in 2018 in Tokyo Marathon, In the Women’s London Marathon, defending champion Jocelyne Jepkosgei finished second as she crossed the finishing line in two hours, eighteen minutes and sixty seconds. By the way, for the benefit of the House, I am a neighbor to Amos Kipruto and Eliud Kipchoge. We borrow salt from each other. The Ministry of Sports and the entire sports management in the country should be reformed to be the sports men and women centered so as to ensure proper attention and rewards are accorded to our gallant sports personalities. This should not only be in athletics, but also football and others. Eliud Kipchoge has proved to be the greatest marathon athlete who has flown the Kenyan flag high thus putting our country on the world map at all times. I call upon the Government to reward these athletes as brand ambassadors of sports tourism to market our unique sceneries including the high-altitude training grounds. One ground is in Iten, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, Lorna Kiplagat Sports Academy."
