"content": "people can be included in the saving culture is very much welcome and, more so, the promise that for every Kshs2 that you save, you will get an additional Kshs1. This will make our people feel that they are saving for themselves and not for anyone. It is well known that the most difficult phase in everyone’s life is the age when one is not able to take care of himself or herself. Today, many parents are a burden to their children. In most cases, we assume that old people should always be confined in hospitals. It is important to know that old people sometimes do not need drugs as much as they need proper nutrition. It is for this reason that I want to support His Excellency the President in ensuring that every person, even in old age, is able to realise their full potential and ensure that they can live quality life. Countries like Italy have an aged population. This population is able to take care of itself because they have very good social security pension schemes. The situation is completely different in our country because when you get old, you are left at the mercy of your children. They may give you support or not. When they do not give you support, you get sick and end up in hospital. The President was very categorical that the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) programme must work for us Kenyans. The NHIF is a scheme that has been in Kenya for quite a while. More often than not, it does not provide the quality healthcare that you would expect it to offer. It is my prayer that with the unveiling of UHC, we should be able to ensure that every sick person gets access to quality medical care."
