Deputy Speaker, I sit in the shoes of the first Member of Parliament, the late Oloitiptip, the late John Keen, the late Philip Odupoy and, of course, the gentleman who said ‘there comes a time when the nation is more important than an individual’ the great Prof. George Saitoti. I am humbled and honoured to serve in this Assembly, and I can only assure the great voters and this Parliament that I will give my best with the help of God. Hon. Deputy Speaker, on the Presidential Speech, first of all I want to congratulate His Excellency the President on being elected. It is only God who made him the President and the people of Kenya. He comes in at a very defining time. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and outstanding leaders. When you read a book by Lee Kuan Yew, From ThirdWorld to First : The Singapore Story: 1965-2000, you see a leader who comes in at a time when Singapore was about to sink and get back to be joined with Malaysia.
