    "content": "As I do so, I want to thank hon. Members for the support they have continued to extend to the Government and policies that we are trying to implement. I wish to appreciate the support that members have accorded the tax proposals that we have announced during the Budget Speech this year. As I have indicated in my Budget Speech, our economy experienced three major shocks in 2008. This includes the self inflicted economic disruption following the 2007 general election. Second, the protracted drought. Third, global economic and financial crisis which have adversely affected our economy. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, with the current drop in the international oil price and the ongoing short rains in most parts of our country, as well as the positive signs of global economic recovery, we are now confident that the policies we are implementing will restore our economy back to a higher pre-crisis growth trajectory."
