"content": "Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise, pursuant to Standing Order No. 53 (1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights on the status of implementation of the Legal Aid Act No. 6 of 2016. In the Statement, the Committee should – (1) Apprise the Senate on the state of implementation of the Act in providing affordable, accessible, sustainable, credible and accountable legal aid services to individuals in Kenya in accordance with the Constitution since its commencement on 10th May, 2016, outlining the operations of the legal aid scheme; (2) State the number of cases taken up by the National Legal Aid Service in providing representation of persons granted legal aid under the Act;"
