"content": "Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker for this opportunity to give my comment on the said Statement. This morning, we woke up to very sad news about what has been happening in Kericho and the multinationals. I also come from a tea growing area where we have multinationals. Allow me to quote a Kiswahili saying that says “ Ukiona cha mwenzako chanyolewa, chakokitie maji .” This is not an isolated case, and it is not only happening in Kericho only. It is happening everywhere and in every work place in this country. This is a matter that has not been given adequate attention. It is a matter that has affected so many women and people in this country. It is a matter that is affecting people who are trying to fend for their families. If you look at the details that happened in Kericho as per what was exposed, they are extremely serious and horrific so to speak. They do not have a place in this country nor anywhere. As per the expose, it is an endemic issue that deserved adequate and urgent attention from all stakeholders for justice to be served, and for the perpetrators to be held accountable, and for them to be used as an example. I can only say one thing about the perpetrators, that they are perverts who do not deserve any leadership position. They do not deserve any hearing in this country or anywhere else. They should just pay for the heinous crimes and acts they have committed. We want to tell the workers of the multinationals in Kericho and this country at large where these things are happening that the women and the Members of Parliament will stand with them and ensure that justice is served adequately, and are all brought to book and used as perfect examples of anyone who would want to sexually exploit the women or men in this country. We want to also tell the multinationals that we want to see things happening and not just on paper with regard to sexual abuse and harassment in their places of work. This is to ensure that we do not have good policies on paper but the actionability or implementation of them is zero.
