Deputy Speaker, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 44(2)(c), I rise to request for a statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Energy regarding power outages in Faza Ward, Lamu East Constituency. The residents of Faza Ward in Lamu East Constituency have been experiencing periodic power outages that last for three to seven days for the last six months. The periodic power outages are a major concern to the local community. Regrettably, lack of reliable electricity has caused significant disruption in household businesses, particularly Tuna fishermen and traders who have lost so much stock due to failure of storage facilities such as coolers and fridges. The lack of electricity has also adversely affected service delivery to residents of Faza Sub-County Hospital. Consequently, the existence of non-functioning generator at the said sub- county hospital, has put the lives of patients at risk in the event of power blackout during operation sessions. Additionally, learning institutions in the area have also been forced to rely on generators for their operations.
