"content": "UDA): Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I just wanted to comment on the status report by the Chair, Public Investments Committee on Education and Governance. In this country, when the University Act, 2012 was amended, it did not provide for regulation of training of doctors and pharmacists by the various bodies that are responsible. I think as the Committee prepares its report, this is something that it very critical because doctors and pharmacists are supposed to be regulated by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, together with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council. If the level of training within our universities is not checked, then we will be releasing half-baked doctors to the market without any proper regulation. I want to urge the Chair that when you will be looking at it, please let us amend the Education Act so that the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council and Pharmacy and Poisons Board can be able to oversee our universities to make sure that they are providing in terms of regulation, proper training for doctors and pharmacists. We have seen many cases of mismanagement of patients. Recently, we had a case at the Nairobi Hospital which I saw on Twitter and it brought a lot of issues. We have had cases of people raising a lot of issues about mismanagement of patients. As a nation, we must look at that issue and rectify it so that we can have doctors of good calibre. Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker."
