"content": "Whenever you drive either through Nandi or anywhere in Nyamira, Kisii, Mount Kenya Region, there are many young people who are as young as 12 or 15 years are running every morning to win a gold medal. That is the competition we want. We want that strength. Professional athletes have to make many sacrifices. It is not easy. Those people must train and go for massage. However, because of corruption, lethargy, anarchy, and people wanting things through shortcuts, they are threatening the career of promising athletes. These are unlicensed coaches and agents. I have talked to many athletes who have been caught in the doping scandal. The rogue agents and coaches sometimes tell them to take prohibited pills as painkillers. When the officials come and take blood samples, they are told that they are using doping medication. We come from the community that believe in herbs; not the kind of herbs ile ya Prof. Wajackoyah. I am talking about the real herbs with medicinal value. I know that issue is contentious and the good doctor of medicine Sen. (Dr) Khalwale will tell us that the local herbs, sometimes you are given for health reasons, have medicinal value. However, when WADA and ADAK come and take blood samples, they say you are doping. This is because there is no clear timeline on how you can use these herbs. Therefore, there should be more research. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, some athletes have been banned or put in the red list by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) and the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) because they sometimes misuse these herbs for either medicinal value or some other things. Therefore, in a nutshell, there are many cartels that collude with pharmacists, doctors and nurses, to inject these athletes"
