"content": "As said by my colleagues who stood before me to support the Petition, the issue of land dates back to the pre-colonial era when the white man came, took our land and gave us the Bible. We followed the word and lost the land to him. The rich who got the opportunity to make some money have also led Kenyans to the same path. They collect our money in the name of starting schemes and then 20 to 30 years down the line, we do not get that land. It is high time the Kenya Kwanza Government enacted laws in place that will not only be punitive to people who force Kenyans to buy pieces of land that they will never get, but to make sure that the wheel of justice is spinning faster than they think so that we can protect Kenyans from losing further to these goons. We heard the President pronounce that we shall construct 100 big mega dams. We know now that the same people are going around the country and buying the land around the areas where the dams will be constructed, so that they can again conspire with the people working at the lands office to get compensation. It is high time that we, as a House, came up with legislative measures so that we try and protect the local communities from these speculative land grabbers who will spare nothing to milk them dry. We are also aware of the fact that most of the land in Kenya was given as tenure with a 99-year lease. It is high time we asked ourselves what would happen after the lease expires. It will surprise the House to know that most of these pieces of land are taken over by few families which own banks and then sold to unsuspecting innocent Kenyans at very exorbitant prices even though they are gotten for free after the lease expires. It is high time that we call a spade a spade and agree that we have attached a lot of value to land to an extent where we have lost the moral authority to even take care of our own brothers. I, therefore, think that as we support this Petition we must come up with measures to ensure that Kenyans are protected and that those who have benefited from unfair land deals pay dearly. This is the only way we can deal with these cartels. It is high time we dealt with them the same way we deal with the drug dealers because that is what they are. I thank you and support."
