"content": "One of the games that earned Gor Mahia Football Club the highest amount of revenue was the game they played against Everton in May, 2019. The Kasarani Stadium was filled to capacity. I remember I was in attendance. That particular game, through SportsPesa, was extremely advertised online, on social media, on radio and on television stations. The stadium was filled to capacity. SportsPesa ensured that people paid for the game. People placed bets in support of either Everton or Gor Mahia Football Club. The team was able to pay allowances to its players and coaches. SportsPesa was able to serve the sports fraternity. Therefore, let us not just look at the bad side of gambling because in as much as we can sit here the whole day and say that we want people to stop putting money in gambling, there is nothing we can do about it. People will still go out there and gamble. They need to ask themselves if they are milking enough from these different companies to ensure that the Government has an extra source of revenue to support some of these facilities that they cannot support. Right now, in this country, we do not even have a medical insurance for our sports men and women. We have sports men and women out there who have retired prematurely because they were not able to get proper medication. Let us not injure the people who, at least, try their best to assist in whichever way they can to make sure that this continues even as we go out to seek for solutions. Hon. Temporary Speaker, I want to encourage my colleague, Hon. Duncan from Nyeri and tell him that as we look at the regulations that we want to come up with, let us also make sure that we protect our people from the same. When I came to Parliament, I said I would always look out for sports funds for players because sports bring people together. Hon. Duncan, together with the committee that is going to work on this matter, let us look for other ways of getting good ideas. Let us even go for public participation and see how wananchi can give us ideas on how we can enhance the law and make it better for our people."
