It is important for the Senate to understand the circumstances that led to the closure of China Centre and the reopening of China Square immediately thereafter. I support my colleagues that even as we push for foreign direct investment, we also need to protect the local manufacturers and businesses so that we do not flood our market with cheap imports from China and other countries. That will affect the economy in a big way. I ask the relevant Committee to look at this matter in detail especially the effect on taxation of China Square. What has been the impact on the taxation volumes in this country?
