"content": " Mr. Speaker, Sir, this is a very interesting Petition that is of great public interest. You are aware that today, the DailyNation is running a story “ 72 hours of Death ” of what is continuing to be a matter of great public concern. We continue to lose Kenyans on the roads on a daily basis and in large numbers. This is something that does not need to happen in a country of our size and economic ability. When our good friend, Sen. Kipchumba Murkomen, was vetted by the Committee of the National Assembly, he assured the country that within a short stay in office, he would put measures in place to deter bad driving. This is because 90 per cent of these accidents occur because people do not adhere to the traffic rules that are already set. Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is not lack of good traffic laws that we continue to have these accidents. Most of the time, these accidents occur because of reckless driving. For example, a driver can clearly see that an area has been marked a maximum speed of 50 Kmph, but they drive 80 Kmph and upwards till 100 kmph. There are signs for pedestrian crossing, but people zoom past them as if nothing is happening. Sen. Murkomen gave the country an assurance that he will use technology, which is easily available in the country. If you go through all our highways; Mombasa Road, the road going to the Western part of the country, Thika Road as well as all the major places"
