"content": "Secondly, Kenya has abundant sources of renewable energy. In particular it is endowed with 20 prospective geothermal fields with steams sufficient enough to generate up to 7,000 megawatts. It is estimated that Kenya is only next to New Zealand in terms of geothermal potential. The Government has now developed a concrete and bankable plan to generate over 1,000 megawatts of geothermal energy within the next three to four years. Apart from geothermal energy, we are moving forward rapidly with our nation’s first wind firm projects for a combined capacity of over 500 megawatts. This is somewhere in Turkana. We are also evaluating several large scale solar projects. In addition, a 100,000 hectare Jatropha Project is about to get underway for production of a large quantity of biodiesel."
