"content": "with regard to Petitions, the Senate has so far received 13, which have been committed to respective Standing Committees pursuant to Standing Order No. 238(1). Five Petitions are already due for reporting by the Standing Committees on Roads and Transportation and Housing, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Labor and Social Welfare and Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights, respectively. I urge the aforesaid Committees to expedite consideration of the Petitions and table Reports thereon. I also urge the other Standing Committees to process the Petitions referred to them within the 60-day period as per the provisions of Standing Order No. 238 (2). Statements are increasingly being sought pursuant to Standing Order No. 53 and others issued pursuant to Standing Order No. 52. Standing Committees are encouraged to expeditiously consider the Statements and report back to the House with the mechanisms provided for under the Standing Orders. For instance, the Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations considered a Statement sought by the Senator for Tharaka Nithi County on the relocation of national Government services from Chuka town to Kathwana County headquarters and tabled a report on Wednesday 19th April, 2023. The Committee has made some recommendations in the report which require a resolution of the Senate. As such, the Committee has filed a Motion which is scheduled at Order No. 17. Standing Committees are urged to emulate this example, with some going as far as making concrete legislative proposals in the form of Bills to address concerns arising from Statements. Mr. Speaker, Sir, Several Questions have been filed and approved by the Speaker. At its meeting held on Tuesday, 25th April, 2023, the Senate Business Committee approved the second set of Questions to be scheduled in the Order Paper for Wednesday, 3rd May, 2023 during the Morning Sitting. The summary of the Questions and the Cabinet Secretaries to appear on that day are as follows- i. Question by Sen. Danson Mungatana, MGH, MP, to the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, to respond on the marginalization of Tana River County in infrastructural development. ii. Question by Sen. Veronica Maina, MP, to the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage, to respond on the cancellation of voyages and change of cruise ship destination from Kenya. iii. Question by Sen. Veronica Maina, MP, to the Cabinet Secretary for Education, to respond on the suitability and capacity of Bandari College to train seafarers. iv. Question by Sen. Mwenda Gataya Mo Fire, MP, to the Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, to respond on the delay in land demarcation, adjudication and titling in Tharaka Nithi County."
