"content": "v. Question by Sen. Mwenda Gataya Mo Fire, MP, to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, to respond on the resettlement of displaced residents of Machabeni Sub-location in Tharaka Nithi County. vi. Question by Sen. John Kinyua Nderitu, MP, to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, to respond on the state of security in Laikipia County and the wider North Rift region. I urge hon. Senators whose Questions will be scheduled to be available in the Chamber to prosecute them. I also urge all Senators to acquaint themselves with the provisions of Standing Order No. 51(a), (d) and the guidelines issued by the Speaker on the procedure of Questions. For starters and given the experience from yesterday’s sitting, I urge Senators to refrain from introducing new questions, in the guise of supplementary questions, in order to manage the limited time that is available for Questions. I want to pause and thank Members for arriving on time and giving us quorum timeously in yesterday’s Sitting. That saved us the embarrassment from some forces which did not want the Session to proceed. With respect to Motions, there are 21 which are yet to be prosecuted by the respective Movers. I, therefore, implore upon all Senators who have filed Motions to avail themselves in the Chamber whenever their business is scheduled in the Order Paper. You will recall that at times, the Senate has adjourned early due to the absence of Movers of business or lack of quorum. Let us use the available time wisely. In conclusion, on Tuesday, 2nd May, 2023, the Senate Business Committee will consider and approve the business of the day. This will contain business that will not have been concluded from today’s Order Paper and any other business scheduled by the Senate Business Committee. The Order Paper for Wednesday, 3rd May, 2023 and for Thursday, 4th May, 2023, will contain business that will be scheduled by the Senate Business Committee as well as those not concluded from Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s Order Papers. The Senate Business Committee will also schedule any other business pursuant to the Standing Orders. At the rise of the Senate on Thursday 5th May, 2023, the Senate will proceed on a two-week recess pursuant to the Calendar. Regular sittings of the Senate will thereafter resume on Tuesday, 23rd May, 2023. I thank you and hereby lay the statement on the Table of the Senate."
