    "content": "Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise, pursuant to Standing Order No. 53 (1), to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Education regarding the closure of Kabarnet School for the Deaf. In the Statement, the Committee should - (1) State plans, if any, by the Ministry of Education to reopen Kabarnet School for the Deaf that was closed allegedly due to underfunding, leaving many students without access to special education. (2) Disclose the amount of public funds allocated and disbursed to the school in the Financial Year 2021/2022 and Financial Year 2022/2023, and any further support provided, stating the reasons why the funding and support were insufficient for the school’s operation. (3) State plans by the Government, to offer relief to the school's staff who have gone without pay for 22 months. (4) Explain the oversight mechanisms in place to ensure prudent use of public funds allocated to special needs schools. Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir."
