"content": "Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for part (b) of that question, BMA trains in both modular and short courses. Modular courses generate skills for trainees who work as officers while there are hundreds of other Kenyans who pursue other seafaring courses careers under the IMO regulations to allow for employability at sea. The statistics below indicate the numbers trained at BMA since inception in 2019. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I have provided a table with clear numbers of the trainees since 2019 for the different courses on pages 3 and 4 of my presentation. However, just to give an example, the number of seafarers that were engaged in local and international markets last year, was 1,450 seafarers. Currently, we have 320 who have been engaged giving a total of 1,770. When you get the entire total of seafarers trained, it will number to slightly above 5,000. For part (c) of the Question, the BMA has developed various courses and programmes that are on demand and required by seafarers. The BMA has enhanced its capacity to train at least 5,000 seafarers per year in both the short term and long term courses as shown in the achievements and statistics above."
