"content": "Several Members have talked about water, which is important. A study done in 2013 by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) found out that there are huge water reserves in Turkana. It is ironical that last week my Committee of CPISC had issues with Turkana County Government in terms of management of water resources. The company that manages water in that county – Lodwar Water and Sewerage Company - is dead and does not understand what accountability is. You can imagine a public company where private individuals are shareholders. This is a matter that is being handled by my Committee. This tells how governance is still an important issue in this country. We are sitting on water reserves, but cannot exploit those opportunities because of mismanagement. When we get an opportunity to go to Turkana, these are some of the things that the Senate will engage the public on."
