    "content": "I rise, pursuant to Standing Order No. 53(1), to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism on the continued exploitation of Kenyans by credit-only Microfinance Institutions (MFIs). In the Statement, the Committee should – (1) Outline the existing regulations governing credit only MFIs, disclosing the compliance rate of MFI’s to these rules. (2) Address deficiencies noted if any, in the implementation of these regulations, stating interventions to control and streamline the operations of MFIs, akin to the regulations extended to digital lenders by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). (3) State the disciplinary measures if any, imposed on the MFIs if they fail to adhere to the established regulations.
