"content": "I am the one who gives permits to any importer to bring sugar. I can tell you that I have not given any permit to KNTC to bring 200,000 metric tonnes of sugar. I have not and the official position is that of 280,000 metric tonnes. Of these, 100,000 was gazetted in December, another for 25,000 and on 25th May, another gazettement of 180,000. So, there is no other sugar that is coming outside the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) duty-free other than those quantities I am talking about. So, that is a far as the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development is concerned. Our mandate is to ensure that these commodities are available in the market. We are the licensing authority."
