Temporary Chairman, whereas I acknowledge that the import of this amendment as proposed by the Chairperson was to curtail issues of importation of fish into the country, statistics indicate that this country consumes 400 metric tonnes of fish in a year, whereas we only locally produce 163 metric tonnes. That, therefore, leaves a huge gap that can only be covered through importation. It is true that those who import fish into the country pay taxes amounting to Ksh1.5 billion every year. They also have employees that they engage to undertake various activities within those industries.
