"content": "Thank you, Hon. Speaker. Before I contribute to the Petition, kindly allow me to appreciate the Speaker of Kilifi County Assembly and the delegation that has accompanied him. Hon. Teddy was a Member of this House in the 12th Parliament, and was a friend to many. Let me appreciate him for that. The Petition that has been brought by Hon. Owen Baya is not unique. I also want to appreciate the statement that has been made by the Leader of Majority Party on how the Petitions are being handled by the Committee of Public Petitions. I have brought over six petitions. Hon. Owen Baya, being a Member representing a minority community, is very much in tandem with this because he was in the Departmental Committee of Lands. Unfortunately, nothing has been done about those petitions. It is frustrating, demoralising and makes us look like we do not know what we are doing. The number of land grabbing cases in the Coast region is huge. What is going on right now is that some people go to Ardhi House; get whatever papers in pretence of being the actual owners and the next day, eviction orders are served on the people. It is time for this House to come up with resolute laws so that such people can be defended from the agony that they undergo from the land grabbers. I know of eight cases in Kilifi South which have been brought here. Every human being has a right to live and own land. The cases of land grabbers that have been coming up of late are making some people to live very uncomfortable lives. I stand and strongly support the Petition by Hon. Owen Baya."
