Temporary Speaker, I beg to move the following Motion: THAT, this House adopts the Report of the Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry and Mining on its consideration of Ratification of the Amended Nairobi Convention and Protocol for the Protection of Marine and Coastal Environment of the Western Indian Ocean from the land-based resources and activities, laid on the Table of the House on Thursday, 4th May 2023, and pursuant to the provision of Section 84 of the Treaty Making and Ratification Act of 2012, approves the ratification of the Amended Nairobi Convention and the Protocol for Protection of Marine and Coastal Environment of the Western Indian Ocean from the land-based sources and activities. The Amended Nairobi Convention and Protocol for Protection of Marine and Coastal Environment of the Eastern African Region was submitted to the National Assembly and subsequently committed to the Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry and Mining for consideration and reporting to the House. The Nairobi Convention and the Protocol for the Protection of Marine and Coastal Environment of the Eastern Africa Region was adopted on 21st June 1985 to develop, plan, coordinate, and co-operate in the protection and sustainable use of the coastal and marine environment. The Convention and the Protocol were adopted on 31st March 2010 as an amendment to the Nairobi Convention alongside the Protocol for the Protection of Marine and The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
