"content": "Transboundary Movement and Management of Hazardous Waste within Africa, laid on the Table of the House on Thursday, 4th May 2023, and pursuant to the provisions of Section 8(4) of the Treaty Making and Ratification Act, 2012, approves the Ratification of the Bamako Convention on the Ban of Importation into Africa and the Control of Transboundary Movement and Management of Hazardous Waste within Africa. Hon. Temporary Speaker, this is a very important Motion. I hope you remember what has happened in this country. We have had the worst drought in 40 years because we do not take care of our environment. We do not take into consideration some of the materials or wastes that harm our environment. The Bamako Convention on the Ban of Importation into Africa and Control of the Transboundary Movement and Management of Hazardous Waste within Africa was submitted to the National Assembly on 20th July 2022. The convention was negotiated for 12 months by 12 nations of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). This was done in Mali on 30th January 1991 and it came into force on 22nd April 1998. Thirty-five African countries and states have signed the convention. Kenya signed it on 17th December 2003."
