    "content": "Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Speaker, for giving me a chance to talk about this very important Motion on comprehensive health education as a core subject in schools. As opposed to what used to happen before where we learnt things through our parents, and sometimes we were not even told very much, so we would follow and copy what they were doing… We became better citizens but we have a problem in this country and the world over because of social media and the internet. We have seen weird habits from children and even adults. This time round when the parents themselves behave as children, you do not expect them to teach their children much. We are living very fast lives. Even those who engage house- helps these days, want to engage those who have gone to school so that they take care of their children when they are not there. This means you are not leaving your children with strangers. These days we are forced to talk about this subject in schools because we realise that it is going to get out of hand. Children these days know too much and if we do not take care of them from a constructive education system, they are going to get it from social media. This means they will not be able to differentiate what is good for them or the morals that we expect to have as a country. We have seen very many girls leaving school because of teenage pregnancies. Children need to know what it is that they are required to do so that they do not get pregnant and get infected with diseases before they are done with school in order to add value to their lives. Sex has been taken too much for granted lately. We have seen it even in these games that teenagers play. Just the other day, I saw something on the social media where two young boys were hiding behind a car kissing each other. However, with sex education in schools, they would be able to know that you do not engage in sex before you are of age or with a person of the same gender. We may think or assume that LGBTQ is not there but our children are so much exposed and we have seen them commit suicide because it reaches a stage where they find themselves lost and do not know how to judge themselves or how to deal with it out there. This is something that we need to talk about, and also drug habits because there are those children who pick it from school. We need many policies. When we have policies, when busy parents have no time for their children, they can only be taken care of by teachers. This system needs to be put in place so that we are all aware and ensure that what is taught is well structured.
