"content": "applied for electricity reconnection to the depot, and their application is being fast-tracked by the Kenya Power Company (KPC). I want to tell the Member that we have earmarked this facility for an upgrade as a government-sponsored mechanization project. We appreciate the good work this country's farmers are doing for those that took the fertilizer and consider that we are prepared to mitigate loss during this harvest. We need to deal with the post-harvest losses; we will provide a mobile dryer to Eneng’eetia so that those farmers do not travel that long distance to have their maize dried. On whether we want to outsource these depots to private entities, our response is as follows. We have been considering outsourcing depots to private entities, Eneng’eetia included. The assessment is done or will be guided by the National Cereals and Produce Policy that guides leasing out of depots and other facilities to interested parties. We have a profile of the silos we developed and shared with stakeholders in the grain sector to partner with NCPB and use the facility to benefit the farmers on the ground. That is generally what we are doing all over the country. Let me say that right now, because of the expected bumper harvest, we are also looking at hiring extra silos or depots so that we store enough maize and have dryers all over. We are purchasing 100 dryers to dry our maize during this season. We better utilize this Government facility because whatever was required for it to operate is something that we have done over 90 per cent. Thank you, Hon. Speaker."
