"content": " Thank you, Hon. Speaker. While I appreciate the response from the Cabinet Secretary, he might not be aware of middlemen in the supply chain of fertilizer distribution. A good example is that of my constituency. My constituency comprises two landscapes: the highlands and Kerio Valley. A farmer uses Ksh1,500 from Kerio Valley to the store where the fertilizer is sold. This is because the Ministry identified one store in the sub-county. This is the same story in all the other sub- counties in my county: Marakwet West, Marakwet East and Keiyo North which have one store respectively. For someone to commute from one place to the store, they need to pay for their transport fee and the transportation fee for the fertilizer. This increases the cost, so farmers prefer to purchase the fertilizer in nearby shops. This fertilizer is more expensive than subsidized fertilizer. The Cabinet Secretary might not be aware of this. He needs to ask those on the ground about this."
