"content": "Hon. Members, this is a Communication regarding the Annual General Meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Kenya Branch. The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) is an international organization that brings parliamentarians from over 180 parliaments and legislatures of countries and territories within the Commonwealth community. The association was established in 1911, making it one of the world's oldest and most significant parliamentary associations. The CPA's main objectives are to promote parliamentary democracy, provide a platform for parliamentarians and parliamentary staff to exchange ideas and best practices, and foster cooperation among member countries. The Association is committed to upholding the values of the Commonwealth, including democratic governance, respect for human rights, equality, and the rule of law. The CPA Constitution provides for establishing branches, and Members of the legislature in which a branch is formed are entitled to become Members of the branch. In this regard, Hon. Members, membership is open to all Members of the National Assembly and the Senate on payment of the applicable subscription fees. The affairs of each branch are managed by an Executive Committee, and the Parliament of Kenya is one such branch. Members of Parliament who wish to become members of the CPA are required to pay a subscription fee of Ksh4,000 for life membership and Ksh1,000 for annual membership to the branch, payable before January of each year. The fee is deducted from the Member's emoluments upon acceptance by completing a membership form which Members may pick at the main reception and return the completed forms to the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly by or before 7.00 p.m. on Tuesday, 8th August 2023. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor."
