If you go to countries from which we currently import sugar, like Brazil, the maturity period of their sugarcane is 12 months. In Kenya, the maturity period is from 18 to 24 months. There is need to increase productivity by getting a seed variety that can mature within 12 months. The Government also needs to look after the factories it owns.
